When we aim to bring global audiences a diverse slate of films centred on animals, nature and ecology, a natural question emerges: who curates and assesses these works before they reach viewers?
At ANFFF, our pre-selection panel has never been drawn solely from the film industry. Past panel members have included veterinary nurses, university academics, cinema operators, film directors, ecology students, designers, and freelance travel writers. They hail from varied disciplines, bringing distinct professional backgrounds and life journeys — and with them, unique ways of seeing.
We cherish this diversity of perspectives.
Our readings of films about animals, nature and ecology are often informed by experiences outside filmmaking. Our bonds with animals, sustained observation of the natural world, sensitivity to cinematic language, and the cultural and social contexts we inhabit all shape how we interpret a film. It is at the crossroads of these varied lived experiences that we unlock multi-layered readings of each work, keeping the festival’s scope of exploration continuously open.

What we’re looking for
Strong English reading, communication, and writing skills, with the ability to watch films in English independently and provide ratings and written feedback in English;
A sustained interest in film and active viewing practice, along with an interest in issues and films related to animals, nature, and ecology;
The ability to commit consistent time during the pre-selection period from December 2026 to January 2027 to watch films, provide ratings, and write film reviews;
An open and independent approach to viewing films, with a thoughtful approach to each assessment and a willingness to exchange perspectives with other pre-selectors.
Position Information
Working Period: November 2026 – March 2027, with work conducted on a non-continuous basis.
Total Working Hours: No more than 30 hours in total.
Working Mode: Online.
Responsibilities: Participating in preliminary judging meetings, reviewing assigned films, and contributing to the compilation of the curation handbook.
